10th August 2007
Welcome to The Mad Crafter August newsletter. I’m sure that after a quiet summer you’ll all be dying to get back to your projects with the new autumn crafting season starting over the next few weeks.
INFO Building Work INFO
Over the next 2-3 weeks the shop will again be affected by work taking place on the upstairs building. Scaffolding will be covering the front of the whole building but the shop will be open as usual during the work although it is possible that parking will be limited.
INFO Online Shopping cart goes live INFO
At long last I am pleased to announce that from Wednesday 15th August my web site will incorporate a shopping cart to enable you to purchase online. All of the products normally available at the shop will be on the site for purchase. This now means that you can avoid all of the traffic problems and congestion and shop from the comfort of your own home at any time of the day or night.
NEW Fabrics NEW
There are lots of new fabrics now in stock from Orientals and florals, to kids and Christmas. Two particularly striking ranges just arrived are entitled ‘Maya’ and ‘Inspiration II’ both from Blank Textiles. ‘Maya’ is inspired by the Native American Indians and is a striking combination of jewel-like colours on a black background. ‘Inspiration II’ is more floral in design and is the Ovarian Cancer charity fabric for this year. Both are priced at £9.95 per metre. You can also check out the Blank Textiles web site www.blank-textiles.com and look in their Quilt Gallery for free downloadable patterns using these ranges.
OFFER Warm Company Wadding Reduced OFFER
From 1stAugust until further notice Warm & Natural and Soft & bright wadding will l be reduced in price. Warm & Natural is reduced from £11.75 to £9.50 per metre and Soft & Bright is reduced from £6.85 to £5.50 per metre. Both are 90 inches wide. OFFER August Yarn Clearance OFFER
To make way for the new autumn/winter yarn ranges there will be a special offer on current yarn stocks. When you purchase 5 balls/hanks of yarn, you’ll only pay for 4. You can mix and match the yarns you buy, they don’t have to be all the same but you will get the cheapest one free. All yarns are included and are subject to availability. The offer runs until Saturday 1st September.
EVENTS Scottish Quilt Championships 28th – 30th September EVENTS
Time is marching on and this year’s championships are very nearly upon us. I will be taking a stand again at this year’s show but with a difference. As well as all of the usual show offers The Mad Crafter will be hosting a demonstrator from Avery Dennison, manufacturer of the fantastic new ‘Micro Stitch’ basting guns. So, if you’ve been thinking about treating yourself to a Micro Stitch but want to see how it works come along to the stand and see the guns in action during one of our demos. The guns normally retail at £24.99 but will be on offer at the show.

There will be no workshops held in July because of the summer holiday period. The autumn class session will resume in August. INFO Thursday Evening Knit & Natter and Beginner’s Patchwork Groups INFO
As mentioned in the June newsletter I will be starting 2 new groups, one patch work and one knitting on alternate Thursday evenings from the middle of August.
The ‘Thursday Knit & Natter’ group will be similar to the existing Knitting Circle, hosted by myself. The first session will be on Thursday 23rd August and then every alternate Thursday evening from 6.30pm – 8.30pm. There is no formal teaching at the group, it’s just a good excuse to bring along your knitting and have a coffee and a chat with other knitters. There is a nominal charge of £1.00 to cover refreshments. There’s no group list as yet but if you’d like to pop along just give me a call to let me know you’re coming.
The new Beginner’s Patchwork group with Diane Smyth starts on Thursday 30th August, again from 6.30pm – 8.30pm. This group has proved extremely popular and unfortunately I have had to stop taking names for this particular session as all places are now filled. If anyone is still interested in an evening patchwork group and hasn’t been able to join this list please let me know. It may be possible to run a second class if there is enough demand.
